Application Process

How to apply

  • The application form will be available a few times a year, with an announcement posted on Social channels. Follow us on Instagram to get the latest info. Only a limited number of applicants will be accepted at a time, allowing us to serve everyone promptly.

Do I Qualify

  • Of course, the {fotw} program is open to all individuals, regardless of your experience level.
  • Do I qualify if I’m not in North America? Yes, this program is not limited to any geography. However, due to NDA laws in various countries, studios reserve the right to select candidates who fit the projects and comply with their legal limitations.
  • Can I be a Motion Flier if I own a studio with employees? This program is designed to help individuals break into the industry or enhance their skill sets. It is not meant as a way to share one studio’s processes with another.

Requirements for the program

  • NDA is in your DNA. A Non-Disclosure Agreement protects the studios' ability to involve you in their client projects. Once an NDA is signed, you are treated just like any consultant a studio might bring on from a legal standpoint.
  • Do not share any materials or information publicly without explicit, written permission from the participating studios.

What the participating studios can expect

  • Applicants will be added to a queue and contacted when a project that matches their goals becomes available.
  • Selection will be made exclusively based on the types of projects, roles, and/or learning goals chosen by students. Applicants will not be able to select a specific project or studio to join.

what to do as a motion flier

As a Motion Flier, you get the backstage pass to see the inner workings of the participating studio. Each studio and each project will provide you with a very unique journey. You will experience a real-world project unfold,
so stay engaged.

For the best possible experience,
we recommend:

  • Paying attention and ask questions in the designated area.
  • Connecting with other Motion Fliers in the same project.
  • Making time to attend team meetings to see how the studio operates.
  • Learning as much as you can about the team and freelancers involved in the project, so your questions are more relevant and appropriate.
  • Keeping in mind: you are in a safe environment where you can ask any questions without hesitation.

Testimonials

As someone who has never had a “regular” job in motion design, the {fotw} program is practically worth another 4-year degree. I can’t believe the information and value that they give away for free. I can’t recommend it enough, especially to beginners or folks making a career change

I really liked seeing the communication between everyone on the team, and appreciated how open and transparent it was regarding deadlines, goals to ensure productivity, and art critique.

I loved being a Motion Flier! I was sitting with my hands clasped, enjoying watching the "kitchen" of this delivery! There were so many assets, so many deliverables, and I was amazed by how they solved certain things in ways I’d never imagined… For example, how to keep an AE project lightweight or how to handle different versions of the same composition with pre-animated elements

The most valuable aspect of the program was witnessing how motion designers effectively communicate with clients. I gained insights into efficient workflows and learned many different ways to help a designer to time management. I am eager to apply these insights to my own projects. Being a Motion Flier was an incredible opportunity to witness a real-world motion project in action. I learn so much from the systematic and methodical workflow.

I found the Motion Flier program extremely helpful, especially as someone who didn’t go through the traditional route of learning motion design. Getting a glimpse into the process behind this project was incredibly valuable. Watching the team’s interactions and seeing how they support each other was inspiring.

As a new motion designer fresh out of college, it was amazing to be able to gain insight into how the BIEN team communicates with each other throughout the progression of a project and to see how key information and client feedback is organized. On top of that, the team was very welcoming and the program itself is very flexible. It was a pleasure to get a glimpse inside the workflow of such a talented group of people.

I felt instantly welcome to the project, and learned so much from watching every step of how the pros do things. I’m a freelancer who works on corporate gigs, and I haven’t been in a motion design studio environment, so seeing BIEN's workflow gave me a lot of insight and ideas on how to enhance my own workflow.

BIEN’s FOTW program became one of the best experiences in my life. I had the opportunity to observe team workflow, ask questions and continuously learn throughout the entire project. Now, I have a better understanding of team communication, particularly in how to effectively respond to edits and recommendations from colleagues. Additionally, I've gained insight into the significance of teamwork and the process of achieving project milestones, from interpreting a client’s brief to delivering final project files.
